A man accused of stabbing, beheading and cannibalizing another man on a bus in Canada pleaded Tuesday in court for someone to "please kill me."
You have to feel for the victim, his family and friends, as well as for the rest of humanity due to the horrendous nature of crimes such as this one. A person who commits a crime such as this cannot be a "balanced" person, and probably has not been for many years. There is also the possibility that he may have committed other similar crimes that have gone undetected. A person who functions reasonably well in society would not be committing a crime such as this. Mental illnesses in many societies are not properly addressed and this man, as well as many others barely make it on a day to day basis and then one day "snap". Instead of calling for an eye for an eye, which by the way certainly is not a Christian approach, all of us should instead be actively working to make certain that our governments develop meaningful programs to assess individuals. Mass murderers and men such as this needed help but they never reached it and it never reached them.
That is the reason why some of these incidents are not avoided, and as Christians we are called upon to show compassion for the offender regardless of the nature of the crime. Jesus advised us to "turn the other cheek" and did not call for the stoning of Mary Magdalene.
Can't extend enough condolences to the family of the deceased--they have to live with this. Now everyone who travels by bus will rethink their safety. I travel by bus frequently and I never could have conceived of such a thing happening, and I like to sit in the back. Now I may sit up front, and who's going to be comfortable with sleeping on a bus?
I ALSO AM PUZZLED OVER THE SECOND DEGREE CHARGE. I KNOW FIRST DEGREE MUST INVOLVE PREMEDITATION AND IT IS FELT THAT IT WAS NOT PREMEDITATED. WELL, DUH..... WHY WOULD THIS PERSON BOARD THE BUS CARRYING A VERY LARGE CONCEALED KNIFE IF HE HAD NO INTENTION OF USING IT. ON SOMEONE, ANYONE. THE VICTIM MAY HAVE BEEN RANDOM BUT THE ACT ITSELF WAS PREMEDITATED. PERHAPS THE CANADIAN JURISPRUDENCE IS AS MESSED UP AS OURS IS????? OH WELL, MERELY MUSING............
It's sad but the man needs help. To have been driven to do such things is unthinkable. But more than just trying to find some sort of justice, the judge needs to see that this person needs serious attention. I'm sorry that people like this DO exist.

well I think it's time yet again that there need to be some facts but in place regarding a situation like this. Firstly people do just snap, what happens is that over time, depression, stress, and other factors boil and boil. Maybe he tried to hide it for years, who knows. So when this individual does snap, and through his psychosis it is not necessarily him. Hence being found mentally not criminal, or mentally unfit for trial, which I expect will be the case come Sept 8th.
This is a sad and tragic situation, look at Stockwell Day's comments about hoping they convict him. You can't convict a mentally ill individual, when the forensic psychiatrist slaps a report and says " yeah this individually is mentally ill, impaired, cannot comprehend and not fit for trial." It's a legal system, not a justice system, a court system voted by likes of everyone in this democratic country. You hear all kinds of nonsense, immigrant, deport him, again mentally NOT criminal, no charge, he will get help, as for rotting in prison on spending rest of his life in a psychiatric ward, that won't happen either. The minimum stay is 145 days, my prediction is that therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, nurses etc will work with this individual for the next 2-3 years, stabilize him, medicate him and bring him back into society.
As for screening, you can't screen mentally ill people. You know before this individual came to Canada, he was a computer programmer, probably thought he had a job, but knowing how it goes for most immigrants, his skills, qualifications weren't accepted, he had low paying jobs, stress, coping problems, anxiety, depression, and it boiled and ate away at him and his target was an unfortunate young individual named Tim.
Remember the case of Diana Mitsuko Yano? drowned her two kids, killed them, mentally not criminal responsible, 6 months in a BC psych institute and then released, Ali in Calgary, stabbed his cousin, heard voices, not criminally responsible, expected to serve a year in a psychiatrict institute and then with the medical and court appointed psychiatrist will be under there assistance to move into society.
Anyways hope this clarifies some information for people, who go around yelling murder, sick, crazy, and hoping he spends the rest of his life in a padded cell, he'll be back on the streets before you know it and hopefully progresses well with his treatment.
As for Tim's family there is no justice in a court system, we Canadians fight for an equal and fair trial for every individual which Vince is permitted too. The legal system and the judge will go under the advice of the forensic psychiatrist and once that is complete and I highly expect he will be found not criminal, they judge will then of course issue the same ruling, people cry foul, complain about the system they vote for, complain about immigrants, any excuse to justify their own opinions.
Instead what people should do is help individuals, read the facts, open up, remove the stigma and get these people treated and helped before they harm others. Remember that individual in calgary who killed 5 people and himself? Before that happened he went to a doctor to seek help, the doctor brushed him aside and told him he would be fine apparently, look what happened. If thats the case I'm sure that doctor is thinking what the heck did I just do.
Cheers
